Childhood and TeenageYears in Germany

Born and raised an only child in Hanau/Frankfurt/Hessen in Germany, since my earliest youth, my deep desire was to become a doctor. I was particularly interested in the causes and dynamics of body and psyche in relation to suffering.

At the age of 15 I started to work as a nurses’ aid in various medical fields, parallel to school and university education. This offered me very deep experiences in dealing with people as well as in the medical environment. These years formed a solid and pragmatic foundation for medical studies, which I completed until the last year in Frankfurt.

Encounter with the Teaching of C.G. Jung

After the end of the last academic year and state examination in Aachen in 1986, my life guided me to Brussels for specialist training in psychiatry, while also assisting my former husband to establish his gallery for Modern Art.

However, I would never have continued my studies in psychiatry, had I not learned about the work of Swiss psychiatrist Dr. C. G. Jung in the first few month of my junior doctor position through a very professional and talented psychiatrist. In the ongoing therapies and work with sometimes very ill, traumatised people, I experienced the healing efficacy of this therapeutic approach.

This immediatly induced me to begin my personal psychoanalysis with a Jungian-Training-Analyst, as well as to pursue depth- psychological studies at Charles Baudouin Institute in Brussels, at the same time as my psychiatric training. The transdisciplinary approach of this institute still suits me very much because of its research and practice outside of any particular dogma and because it remains open to different streams of psychology and sciences.

As part of this psychotherapeutic and psychiatric training, I opened my own analytical practice in Brussels in 1988 with steady supervision. I maintained my private practice until after my move to Switzerland in 1996. This allowed the individuals engaged in therapy with me to complete their work, or find a colleague for continuation.

I became increasingly aware of the importance of having ones own therapy in order to accompany other people in a resource-oriented manner.

In particular, I realized that as a psychotherapist, I not only apply a theory or a method, asisting others to heal through knowledge. My own being, my own personality are profoundly engaged in this process as well.

A soul-based life is never perfect, but it encourages a mindful and meaningful way of being in life.

Study at the C.G. Jung Institute in Küsnacht, Schweiz

In 1992, the last year of my specialist training the opportunity to work in Switzerland opened up. With great pleasure I excepted to work in the ambulatory of the Sanatorium Kilchberg, and also to begin my studies at the C.G. Jung Institute in Küsnacht.

As part of my training, I began a personal analysis as the core of my studies with a psychiatrist and “Jungian“. This process allowed me to deepen the important bridge work between psychiatry and psychoanalysis and to implement it even more pragmatically in everyday life.

Depth Psychological Therapy in the Psychiatric Clinic

Almost 13 years in the ambulatory of Sanatorium Kilchberg furthered my evolution as an experienced psychotherapist. During this time, I was supported by my chief doctor in relation to my depth psychological approach in a rather behaviorly-oriented clinic. Patients, sometimes with severe clinical issues, could be cared for intensively by me for years. Most of them integrated back into life and consider their hospital stay as well as their outpatient therapy to have been meaningful, enhancing experiences.

The opportunity to carry out longer therapy processes and the transdisciplinary experiences with other therapy schools allowed me to follow my observations, to learn immensly through experience and to successfully complete my studies at the C.G. Jung Institute in 2002.

Two years after graduation at the Jung Institute, I joined the newly founded Jungian training institute of International Seminar of Analytical Psychology, ISAP, (www.isapz.com). Since spring 2018, I serve as a board member to support the bridgework in the training of psychotherapists between psychiatry and Analytical Psychology.

Private Practice in Zürich

In April 2006, I opened a private practice in Zürich near the lake. On the basis of requests from non-medical-psychologists several work at the same location. Thus, a pleasant, transdisciplinary community has developed over time, providing different therapy options from various schools and languages.

Since 2012, my husband Scott Hyder from Idaho, USA, a Jungian analyst, has joined the practice. English and American clients can engage in short- and long-term analysis in their native language, while he also sees Swiss, German and French clientele. www.jungianconsultancy.com
